Mercedes-AMG is edging closer to unveiling its latest high-performance flagship, with fresh prototype images offering the clearest look yet at the brand’s upcoming “extreme” Mythos coupe.

The new model will become only the second vehicle to emerge from Mercedes-Benz’s exclusive low-volume Mythos division, the ultra-luxury sub-brand created to deliver highly bespoke and limited-production performance cars for collectors.

First teased by AMG earlier this year, the latest development car appears to showcase a more aggressive design than the prototype previously seen, hinting at a sharper aerodynamic focus and a significant step up in performance intent.

At the front, the coupe wears an enormous AMG Panamericana grille that stretches deep into the lower fascia, giving it a dramatic road presence. Large side intakes flank the bumper, while the number plate mounting appears unusually exposed, likely a by-product of extensive airflow optimisation.

The widened bodywork is another standout feature. Pronounced front guards house large vents and cut-outs positioned alongside the headlights, while the rear arches are noticeably broader than those of the standard Mercedes-Benz CLE on which the car is expected to be based.

Around the back, the prototype reveals a heavily reworked diffuser design that appears to ditch AMG’s signature quad-exhaust setup in favour of two large integrated outlets carved directly into the bumper. An adjustable rear wing further reinforces the car’s track-focused credentials, while vents behind the rear wheels suggest additional cooling and aerodynamic management.

Inside, the cabin appears equally serious, with deeply bolstered sports seats and extra structural bracing hinting at a stiffer, more performance-oriented chassis setup.

Under the bonnet, expectations are high that Mercedes-AMG will fit its latest 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V8. The engine is expected to produce as much as 485kW and 800Nm.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm a reveal date, but with development activity ramping up, the Mythos coupe’s official debut could be just around the corner.
