XPeng is another electric Chinese new energy vehicle brand that may be coming to New Zealand. If it does this new Tesla Model 3 rival known as P7 could be in the line-up.

Rakish design for updated XPeng P7.

The P7 is an update which could come to market here as the P7 Ultra. The “high-tech and AI-driven smart electric vehicle” will go on sale in the domestic Chinese market before the end of the year.

Up front is a slimmer full-width lightbar with more acute angles. The body features a sloping roofline that continues all the way back to the rear deck. And the back is sharply attenuated in a Kamm tail design.

Flush-fit door handles typically signify EV status.

Its designer said that the original P7 represented a turning point in China for the company. With this new generation, they wanted to design a pure electric sports sedan that looks even sharper.

XPeng describes the P7 as an “athletic five-seater coupe sedan” with an “immersive smart cockpit”. Not that the company has shown off the interior as yet. It evidently blends “AI-powered luxury” with the latest autonomous driving technology.

Here the sloping room and Kamm tail are obvious.

Little is known about its technical specification but it should have at least an 83kWh battery and 560km of range. It will also sport 800-volt electrical architecture for faster charging. The current model P7 offers up to 348kW of output in dual-motor AWD versions, so the numbers for the P7 Ultra should be similar or enhanced further. A range-extender version is also on the cards.

In New Zealand it would appear that XPeng and Zeekr will be handled by the Meng Group, based in Hamilton.
