Ferrari’s first Luce EV sells for more than $60 million at auction

Production of Ferrari’s controversial Luce electric vehicle has begun, and as is practice for any new model from the brand, the very first one has been auctioned off for charity.
Luce chassis 001 managed to fetch $40 million US dollars when the hammer fell, which equates to around $67.9 million New Zealand dollars.
Sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction, the full sale price will reportedly go to charity, with the buyer’s premium being waived.
Despite the landmark sale, the new owner won’t receive the car just yet, as it will return to Maranello before deliveries commence next year.
As a product of Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme, this Luce wears Madreperla Semi-Gloss paint, and a Perla Le Mans metallic leather interior.
While pricing for the EV hasn’t been made public in our part of the world, reports put it around the $1 million mark, making it one of the more expensive vehicles in the line-up.
This EV would only be eclipsed by the special edition F cars and such at this price point.
It makes use of a quad-motor all-wheel drive system, which produces a total of 770kW and 100Nm of torque.
It’s also the fastest accelerating Ferrari of all time with a 0-100km/h time of 2.5-seconds, before hitting a top speed of 308km/h.
According to Ferrari, the Luce’s powertrain is extremely rear-biased, with the majority of the power and torque coming from the rear motors.
It is all powered by a 122kWh battery, which is embedded in the car’s floorpan. It can reportedly provide a driving range of up to 841km.
