GWM has unveiled the 2027 Tank 300, which benefits from a range of updates, with the most notable being another plug-in hybrid system.
Though GMW has only shared images of this new Tank 300, filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show it has grown in every dimension.
It is 126mm longer, 54mm wider, 24mm taller, and it rides on a wheelbase that’s 260mm longer than the current model.
From the images, this looks to have shortened the overhangs at each end, which should improve its off-roading ability, depending on the break-over angle.
Aside from being bigger, the aesthetic of the Tank 300 has largely remained the same, with the only big change being the ‘TANK’ lettering across the front.
It also gets a roof-mounted LIDAR sensor in these images, but it’s unlikely we’ll see LIDAR-equipped models in New Zealand.
Beneath the bonnet, the Tank 300 is now offered with GWM’s Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid system.
This pairs a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric drivetrain, powered by a 59.6kWh battery.
The Tank 300 plug-in hybrid with the Hi4-T system was recently introduced to the New Zealand market, but the Hi4-Z system is quite different.
Where the Hi4-T uses a mechanical four-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case and locking differentials, the Hi4-Z system is an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system.
GWM notes that both plug-in hybrid systems will continue to be offered globally with the Tank 300, as well as petrol options.
A diesel hybrid version is also expected to be unveiled in the near future.
