Ineos Automotive isn’t against the idea of producing a V8-powered Grenadier to rival the Mercedes-AMG G63 off-roader.

News of this rumour has come from an interview Australian outlet CarExpert conducted with the local boss Justin Hocevar.

“There’s been lots of tinkering in the background exploring different possibilities, and you’ve seen some of that stuff manifest when we went to Goodwood and showed off the V8 prototype vehicle that had been developed.”

“I think there’s a lot of enthusiasm for it, both within the company, in our dealer networks, distributors around the world, and customers alike,” he told the outlet.

Ineos has previously teased the idea of a V8-powered Grenadier with a concept that was shown at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

This one-off was put together by the team that currently builds the Grenadier in France, and used a 6.2-litre General Motors V8 instead of the usual BMW-sourced diesel mill.

With an extra 117kW beneath the bonnet, this V8-powered Grenadier didn’t quite match the AMG’s level of grunt with its 430kW, but would provide some extra push off road.

Despite this GM-powered prototype existing, it seems Ineos would stay with BMW power for a go-fast Grenadier, according to Mr Hocevar.

Considering how the brand already has a deal with the German brand, there is a possibility Ineos might be able to use either one of the ‘M’ straight sixes, or the burly 4.4-litre twin turbo V8.
