Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus Performante SE, and with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, it’s the most powerful SUV to come from the brand.
Like the regular Urus SE, this Performante makes use of a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine paired with a transmission-mounted electric motor. In this form, the combination produces a potent 589kW and 1,000Nm.
An eight-speed automatic transmission sends drive to all four wheels, allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 3.3-seconds.
While this might sound blisteringly fast for an SUV (and it is), it’s the same as the old non-hybrid Urus Performante’s time.
Despite packing an extra 107kW, the added weight of the hybrid battery it carries around negates the performance gains.
While Lamborghini hasn’t stated just how heavy this battery is, it’s a 25kWh unit that provides 60km of electric range.
All up, that leaves this Performante SE at 2,473kg as the brand’s second-heaviest vehicle of all time, only eclipsed by the infamous LM002.
Despite this extra weight, the Urus Performante SE still has plenty of get up go, sporting a top speed of 312km/h.
Chassis-wise, it gets AURA dual-chamber air suspension, which is said to bridge the gap between comfort and performance better.
This new suspension also reportedly reduces body roll by 55 per cent, and the track that has been widened by 16mm also contributes to this.
As for aesthetics, the Performante SE distinguishes itself with new carbon fibre bodywork, larger cooling ducts, and a taller rear spoiler.
On the inside, it remains a familiar affair with Lamborghini’s iconic aviation inspired controls, and plenty of carbon fibre.
