Italian Police unveil Lamborghini Temerario as organ transportation vehicle

Words: Andrew Sluys

The Italian Police have unveiled a Lamborghini Temerario as the latest addition to its fleet, but it’s not for highway pursuits.

Instead, this Temerario will be used for transporting organs and medical supplies across the country at high speed.

While it isn’t the first Lamborghini to be used for this job by the Italian Police, it is probably the fastest.

A handover event took place at Lamborghini’s Sant’ Agata Bolognese headquarters, between CEO Stephan Winkelmann and members of the Italian government.

The Temerario is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, which is paired with three electric motors to make up its all-wheel drive system.

It produces 676kW, and is able to hit 100km/h from a standing start in just 2.7-seconds, before topping out at 340km/h.

Since 2004, Lamborghini’s partnership with the Italian Police has seen six high-performance vehicles enter the fleet.

It started with a Gallardo, which was used for its first emergency organ transport job in September of the same year.

Since then, various Lamborghini supercars have been used for over 200 organ transport missions across Italy.

Other models that have been used throughout the years include a Gallardo LP 560-4, a Huracan, and a Urus Performante.

Interestingly, the Italian police have only ever opted for the more “affordable” model from Lamborghini, and have never put a V12-powered model into the fleet.

This could either be down to the sheer cost of those halo supercars, or the fact the V10s have previously been easier to maintain.
