McLaren announces new ‘McL 820’ supercar by unveiling Kiwi statute in London
Words: Andrew Sluys
McLaren has announced its new flagship supercar will be called the ‘McL 820’, and will be launching next year.
To mark the occasion, the brand has unveiled a Kiwi statue in central London, wearing McLaren’s colours in a camouflage pattern.

It also features the name of the new car, which is the first series production car to bear McLaren’s new naming convention.
According to the brand, this structure “combines the McL prefix, inspired by McLaren’s motorsport heritage, with a performance-driven numerical identifier.” In the case of McL 820, the number reflects the vehicle’s 820PS power output.

The first iteration of this new structure arrived with the McL 6GT, which is an ultra-exclusive manual-equipped supercar built as a tribute to Bruce McLaren’s personal car.
This McL 820 will land as the successor to the 750S, which has been on sale since 2023.
As an evolution of the 720S, it arrived with more power, less weight, with both coupe and spider options available.

It’s safe to assume that the McL 820 will follow the same formula, and its 604kW should be more than enough to provide an entertaining drive.
McLaren adds further details surrounding this McL 820 will be announced in 2027.
