McLaren to sell five “priceless” Formula 1 cars from heritage collection

McLaren has announced it will be selling five vehicles from its heritage Formula 1 collection.
“We have decided to part with these iconic McLaren Formula One cars because we feel that having them simply sitting in storage is a disservice to what they represent,” McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said in a statement on Sunday.

“These cars were built to be driven and raced, and we want to see them being used and enjoyed. We believe that is the best way to keep our history alive and our heritage business active.”
The cars in question span from 1991 to 2023, and include vehicles driven by Ayrton Senna and Brad Pitt.
The lot includes two MP4/6A cars, which are powered by Honda V12 engines. They were raced by Gerhard Berger and tested by Senna.

There’s also a 2012 McLaren MP4/27A, which was raced by Jenson Button and tested by Lewis Hamilton.
The lot is rounded out by a pair of modern F1 cars, which were piloted by Lando Norris through the 2021 and 2023 seasons.
The 2023 MCL37A-03 not only won successive races in Singapore and Japan, but was also driven by Brad Pitt to promote the F1 movie.

The cars will be sold through Tom Hartley Jr., who has previously brokered sales for Bernie Ecclestone.
“It is incredibly rare for a collector to have the opportunity to acquire race-driven Grand Prix cars directly from the manufacturer and team that built and campaigned them, and that makes this a very special offering,” said Hartley.
“These five cars will be offered individually and there is no time pressure whatsoever. Our priority, and McLaren’s, is to find the right homes for them.”
While no price indications have been published, they are expected to start around $12 million and go as high as $23 million.
