LeBron James’ Mercedes-Maybach S 680 to be auctioned for charity

Words: Andrew Sluys

Finding a car that has enough room when you’re over 200cm tall is something that’s easier said than done.

In the case of LeBron James, it helps that he’s a multi-millionaire with no shortage of brands throwing their products at you.

Over the years, James has made no secret of his penchant for luxurious Maybach vehicles, so it’s little surprise to see he’s teamed up with the brand.

Set to be auctioned by Gooding Christie, proceeds will go to James’ I PROMISE program which is part of his Family charity.

While the car in question isn’t one that has been owned by LeBron himself, it was customised by him, and reportedly matches the spec of his personal S 680.

The exterior is finished in a non-metallic Light Ivory shade, which is exclusively offered by Mercedes’ Manufaktur department.

It also has had the V12 logos on the front fenders replaced by LeBron’s logos.

On the inside, the Maybach is even more eye-catching, finished in Stormy Weather blue Nappa leather.

This is contrasted by white stitching across the cabin, with LeBron’s logo appearing again on the headrests.

There’s a badge on the centre console showing the coordinates for Akron, Ohio, where LeBron grew up.

Beneath the bonnet, this S 680 uses a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 engine that produces a hefty 463kW and 900Nm.

“The chance to design my own customized Mercedes-Maybach was something I never even dreamed of as a young kid growing up in Akron,” James said.

“To now have the opportunity to uplift my community and the families we serve through this auction means everything to my Foundation as we continue to build an ecosystem of supports that allows them to live out their dreams as well.”
