Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new GLB SUV, which serves to replace the EQB as the brand’s smallest electric SUV.

Despite being a small SUV, the names of these vehicles are anything but, with the GLB 250+ with EQ Technology representing the entry point to the range, and the GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology rounding it out.

Both of these GLBs feature an 85kWh battery and an 800 volt electric architecture, which is capable of adding 260km of range in ten minutes.

The entry level GLB 250+ with EQ Technology has a single 200kW electric motor on the front axle, making it two-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz claims it has a class-leading electric range of up to 631km (WLTP) off a single charge.

The GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology is all-wheel drive, with two electric motors making a combined 260kW. An electric driving range figure for this model is yet to be released.

Mercedes-Benz notes that additional models will soon join the GLB range at either end, with a cheaper model set to represent the entry point to the line-up, and range-topping “high-tech” hybrids.

As was the case with the last GLB, this new model retains its capacity for carrying seven passengers. Five-seater models are also available.

On the inside, this GLB can be optioned with Mercedes’ “MBUX Superscreen”. This is comprised of a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 14-inch infotainment display, and a 14-inch passenger display.

As for luggage capacity, there’s 127 litres of space available in the frunk, as well as 480 litres of space when all seven seats are in position. This jumps to 1,605 litres with the third row folded.

New Zealand pricing and specifications for this new GLB are yet to be revealed.
