Toyota is looking to revive the Estima MPV with hybrid and electric power, according to a report out of Japan.

First published by Best Car Magazine, the report states Toyota has begun development on a new Estima MPV, which was previously sold as the Previa in New Zealand.

With radically-rounded styling and mid-engine power, the first-generation Previa was a staple on New Zealand roads, and is not too uncommon of a sight in modern times.

The two generations of Previa that followed lost the unique styling language, but always seemed to be a favourite in the MPV segment.

According to this report, this new Estima will be based on Toyota’s GA-K platform, the same that underpins the RAV4 and Highlander.

As for engine options, Best Car reports both hybrid and pure electric power will be available.

It’s also noted that this new Previa will take styling inspiration from the rounded first-generation van.
