Toyota’s all-electric variant of the Hilux (the Hilux BEV) has gained the same five-star ANCAP safety rating as the standard model.

The safety scores have also carried over from the diesel hybrid models, which were first achieved in December 2025.

Here, the Hilux scored 84 per cent in Adult Occupant Protection, 89 per cent in Child Occupant Protection, 82 per cent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 84 per cent in Safety Assist.

This rating extends across all three of the Hilux BEV models offered locally, including the SR Dual Cab Utility, the SR Dual Cab Chassis, and the SR5 Dual Cab Utility.

Despite being confirmed for the local market, Toyota New Zealand is remaining tight-lipped around pricing for this Hilux BEV.

In Australia, it went on sale this month, starting from A$74,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level SR Dual Cab Utility.

While local pricing remains unknown, the premium Toyota Australia is charging for the BEV over its diesel equivalent offers a useful guide.

In Australia, moving from the diesel SR 4×4 double-cab pick-up with 48V mild hybrid (A$59,490) to the BEV SR pick-up (A$76,490) represents a premium of roughly 29 per cent. At the SR5 level, the jump from the diesel 48V auto at A$65,990 to the BEV at A$82,990 is around 26 per cent.

Those are indicative figures only. Toyota New Zealand may choose to position the BEV differently, and the local range may not mirror Australia’s exactly.
