Toyota renews partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand ahead of 38th America’s Cup

Toyota New Zealand has confirmed it will renew its partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand ahead of the defence of the 38th America’s Cup.

Toyota has supported the syndicate since 1992.

Toyota New Zealand Chief Strategic Officer Andrew Davis says the renewed agreement reflects the mindset shared by both organisations.

“We see something of ourselves in this team,” says Andrew Davis. “They’re relentless about improving, brave enough to try what hasn’t been done before, and proud to represent New Zealand on the world stage. For 34 years we’ve backed that spirit, and we’re just as committed as ever as they head into the 38th America’s Cup. At Toyota, we believe innovation should do more than push boundaries – it should inspire people and create excitement for New Zealand.”

Grant Dalton says Toyota’s continued backing has been vital to the team’s progress and its ability to keep pushing technological boundaries.

“Toyota has been with us through every phase of this journey – the highs, the rebuilds and the constant pursuit of doing things better,” says Dalton. “Having a partner that shares our commitment to innovation and representing New Zealand on the world stage is incredibly important. Their support helps enable the kind of thinking and engineering that keeps this team competitive at the very highest level.”

Innovation remains central to the partnership. The team’s hydrogen-powered Chase Zero support vessel, which runs on Toyota fuel cell technology, highlights how high performance and lower emissions can coexist.

Toyota also supports sailing pathways through programmes including the Toyota Optimist Nationals and Toyota Kiwi Cup, helping connect grassroots sailors with the sport’s highest level as the next America’s Cup campaign approaches.
