JAC Hunter PHEV has all the specs
Words: Kyle Cassidy
Chinese brand JAC Motors has revealed full details of its upcoming Hunter PHEV ute. It’s been confirmed for Australia, and will be offered here too, though the exact timing and pricing details are still TBC for NZ.
The plug-in hybrid dual-cab will arrive with a 3500kg braked towing capacity and a 915kg payload across the entire range.
Under the bonnet, the JAC Hunter PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors delivering a claimed 360kW.

JAC claims combined fuel consumption of 1.6L/100km (NEDC, and dependent on your charging regime), alongside a total driving range of up to 1005km when combining petrol and electric power. Don’t expect to achieve 1.6L/100km over that distance however, nor while towing.
A 31.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery underpins the electrified system, while vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability adds extra versatility for worksites and outdoor use. No word on the engine-off electric range however.

JAC says the Hunter maintains its full 3500kg towing capacity regardless of power source. The brand says the system has been engineered for consistent real-world performance, rather than headline figures achieved under ideal conditions.
The JAC Hunter is also equipped with proper off-road hardware, including four-wheel drive with front and rear differential locks.
Development of the ute has included input from Michael Barber of Multimatic, a firm known for its involvement in high-performance and off-road vehicle programmes. JAC says this collaboration has helped fine-tune the Hunter’s ride, handling and steering, particularly under load.
