There is officially another plug-in hybrid ute for sale on the New Zealand market, with the launch of the JAC T9 PHEV at Fieldays this morning. The firm is humbly calling it ‘NZ’s most powerful and safest hybrid ute’.
It has some impressive on-paper stats including 360kW of combined power (pipping the Shark 6 Performance), 674Nm of torque, an EV range of 100km (that’s an NEDC figure, so expect less in the ‘real world’) and a combined range of 1005km. It can also tow 3500kg braked. But the bit you want to know is the price, right.
What’s the price of the JAC T9 PHEV?
JAC is launching the T9 PHEV at a ‘limited time’ offer price of $59,990+orc.
Other plug-in options include the GWM Cannon Alpha which is currently on promotional pricing of $60,990 for the month of June, while the Ultra variant is $69,990.
The BYD Shark 6 starts from $69,990, the new Performance model being $72,990 while the Ranger PHEV starts at $82,990 for the XLT and the Wildtrak is $89,990. The conventional diesel-powered T9 is $44,990, in case you wondered.

The T9’s PHEV system is said to have dual electric motors, paired with a four-speed transmission and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. JAC will have you know it delivers ‘the kind of consistent, predictable power that ute drivers expect whether they’re towing, hauling, or heading off-road’.
The JAC T9 PHEV has front, rear and centre differential locks and dedicated off-road and crawl drive modes.
Some of the spec items include a 360-degree camera and a full suite of safety and driver assist features. There is also ‘premium interior trim’ and ‘advanced infotainment’ on the list.
The T9 PHEV is available to pre-order now, with stock estimated to arrive ‘late-July to early-August’ this year.
