Jaecoo J7 Black Edition confirmed for NZ
Words: Richard Edwards
Jaecoo’s blacked-out J7 SHS-P Black Edition is coming to New Zealand, with the first cars due in early December.
“I can confirm the Black Edition is coming to NZ,” says an Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand spokesperson. “They should arrive around early December.”
The Black Edition went on sale in Australia this month. There it’s based on the range-topping SHS-P Summit AWD and priced from A$49,990 driveaway. NZ pricing and specification have yet to be confirmed, but the spokesperson says the local spec is expected to align with what Australian buyers are getting.

The Black Edition uses the same Super Hybrid System as the all-wheel-drive J7 plug-in hybrid. A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine works with an electric motor on each axle, for a combined 260kW and 490Nm.
All the exterior chrome is replaced with black. That covers the waterfall grille, wheels and exterior trims, and the mirrors and roof rails get a gloss-black finish. Inside, there’s a dark headliner and dark pillar trims.

Equipment on the Australian car includes a 14.8-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch driver display, heated and ventilated front seats and a Sony sound system. It supports DC fast charging, and Jaecoo claims a 30 to 80% charge takes about 20 minutes.

The current NZ J7 range starts with the petrol J7 EX 2WD at $37,990, followed by the J7 EX+ AWD at $43,990. The plug-in hybrid J7 SHS EX+ lists at $49,990 but is currently on offer at $47,990, and the J7 SHS EX+ AWD is $53,990. The J7 sits between the J5, which costs $39,990 as a hybrid and $42,990 as an EV, and the J8 SHS-P Summit AWD at $68,990.
