The Jaecoo J5 EV has recorded 150 orders in New Zealand as part of a broader trans-Tasman success story that has seen the Chinese brand exceed 4000 orders in Australia.
An Omoda Jaecoo spokesperson says the electric SUV has resonated with customers on both sides of the Tasman since its launch.

“The Jaecoo J5 EV has struck a cord with customers both in Australia and New Zealand,” the spokesperson says.
“In over three months we have recorded over 4000 orders in Australia and the success has spread to NZ, where we have taken 150 orders.”
The Australian market saw particularly strong momentum recently, with the brand recording 2000 additional orders in under two weeks after initially reaching 2000 orders in three months.
The J5 EV is part of the Omoda Jaecoo portfolio, which combines the Omoda and Jaecoo brands under Chinese automotive group Chery. The J5 EV is positioned as an affordable electric SUV option in the competitive small-to-medium SUV segment.

The spokesperson says the early success reflects growing demand for new energy vehicles across both markets.
“This is an incredible effort by the team and we look forward to further accelerating our new energy sales,” they say.
The strong performance comes as New Zealand’s electric vehicle market continues to evolve, with buyers increasingly looking for affordable alternatives to established brands in the growing EV space.
