Kia has unveiled the second-generation Seltos with evolutionary styling and more tech on board.

The compact SUV is said to play a key role in Kia’s expansion strategy as the brand balances traditional powertrains with its broader push toward electrification. Globally, the Seltos is one of Kia’s best-selling models, and this latest iteration aims to build on that success with a stronger focus on design, technology and everyday usability.

Built on a new platform, Kia says the Seltos has been re-engineered to deliver improved refinement, driving confidence and interior space. Measuring 4430mm long with a 2690mm wheelbase, it promises strong practicality for both urban and family use, including a 536-litre boot.

Visually, the new model adopts Kia’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design language. Signature “Star Map” lighting features front and rear. Kia says that the strong shoulder line, floating roof design and extended D-pillar give the Seltos a more dynamic stance. Buyers will be able to choose from multiple trims, including a sportier GT-Line and a more rugged X-Line variant.

Inside, the cabin takes clear influence from Kia’s EV interiors, with a horizontal layout and an emphasis on space and technology. A panoramic display combines dual 12.3-inch screens with a dedicated climate control interface, supported by a unified user interface designed for ease of use. Features such as ambient lighting with 64 colour options, a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system and a “relaxation” driver’s seat aim to elevate comfort levels.

Practicality features include reclining rear seats, flexible storage solutions and Kia’s AddGear system offering modular storage options. The Seltos is also equipped with Kia Digital Key 2.0, allowing smartphone-based access and sharing.

The new Seltos introduces a range of powertrain options, including a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 180PS and 265Nm, available with a dual-clutch transmission. A hybrid variant will also be offered, delivering up to 178PS in all-wheel-drive form. Notably, the Seltos becomes the first Kia model to feature Hyundai Motor Group’s e-AWD system, which enhances traction and stability through precise torque distribution.

Further bridging the gap between combustion and electric models, the hybrid Seltos also introduces Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing external devices to be powered directly from the vehicle.

Driving dynamics should improve thanks to increased body rigidity, enhanced sound insulation and refined suspension tuning. The model also features Drive Mode Select and a new “Stay Mode”, enabling occupants to use cabin functions while the vehicle is stationary.

Safety and driver assistance technology is comprehensive, with a full suite of Level 2 systems including Highway Driving Assist 2, adaptive cruise control, lane following assist and remote smart parking functionality.

The new Seltos will be offered in New Zealand, potentially arriving in the second half of the year. Powertrain and spec variants are yet to be confirmed.
