Mazda Motors of New Zealand has confirmed pricing for two key new models, the third-generation CX-5 SUV and the 6e electric fastback, with both due in local showrooms later this year.

CX-5 from $46,490

The new CX-5 arrives in four grades, all powered by the familiar 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol (132kW/242Nm) with a six-speed automatic and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. There is no longer a front-drive option.

The pricing:

Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD $46,490
Mazda CX-5 SP AWD $49,990
Mazda CX-5 Homura AWD $57,990
Mazda CX-5 Takami AWD $61,990

Three of those four grade names are new to the CX-5, aligning with naming conventions already used across the wider Mazda range. The SP replaces the GSX as the expected volume seller, and at $49,990 it comes in $300 cheaper than the outgoing GSX AWD while adding equipment including a head-up display, heated steering wheel, powered tailgate, leatherette trim and 19-inch wheels.

The flagship Takami is the sharpest price reduction, sitting nearly $5,900 below its outgoing equivalent at $61,990. The Homura, which replaces the Limited, is $3,200 less than the model it succeeds while adding a panoramic sunroof for the first time on CX-5 along with a 360-degree camera system with see-through view.

The entry Touring at $46,490 is $600 cheaper than the outgoing GSX FWD, despite now being all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control and heated front seats.

Fuel consumption is rated at 7.9 l/100km on the WLTP cycle, improved over the second-generation model. Braked towing capacity remains at 1,800kg across all grades.

The CX-5 is due in showrooms from August. Dealers are now accepting orders.

6e confirmed at $58,990

Mazda has also confirmed what we reported earlier this week when pricing for the 6e leaked via an AutoTrader community member who had been contacted by their local dealer. The single Takami grade is priced at $58,990 plus on-road costs, exactly as indicated.

New Zealand will receive the 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery variant with rear-wheel drive, producing 190kW and 290Nm. WLTP range is 560km, and Mazda says 10-80 percent DC charging takes 24 minutes on a 195kW charger.

That pricing drops the 6e into the middle of an increasingly competitive electric sedan segment. It matches the BYD Seal Dynamic at $58,990, sits roughly $4,000 above the Dongfeng 007 Long Range at $54,990, and comes in nearly $5,000 under the base Tesla Model 3 at $63,900. The range figure is the standout: at 560km the 6e offers more claimed WLTP range than any of those competitors at or below its price.

The 6e is a five-door fastback rather than a conventional sedan, with frameless doors, illuminated signature wings that animate during charging, and a panoramic roof as standard. Inside there is a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch instrument display and augmented reality head-up display, with Nappa leather and woven fabric seat trim.

The 6e also introduces connected vehicle technology to the local Mazda range, with an app allowing remote management of charging schedules, cabin pre-conditioning, and virtual Bluetooth key sharing with up to three additional users.

Both models are covered by Mazdacare, which includes a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years/100,000km of scheduled servicing at no extra cost. The 6e battery carries an extended warranty of eight years/160,000km.

The 6e is due from September. Dealers are taking orders now.
