Mazda’s upcoming 6e electric fastback could be set to land in New Zealand at a sharper price than expected, with an apparent dealer leak pointing to a sub-$60k starting figure.
According to a post shared on Reddit’s NZEV community, a customer contacted by their local Mazda retailer was told the new Mazda 6e will start from $58,990 plus on-road costs when it arrives later this year. The same post claims dealers are already accepting $1,000 refundable deposits, with first customer deliveries tipped for late August or early September.

We contacted Mazda NZ and they neither confirmed nor denied the pricing, saying only they would have more information in the near future.
What has already been confirmed is the specification for New Zealand-bound models. The 6e will be offered locally in a single Takami trim level powered by a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 190kW and 290Nm. Mazda claims a WLTP driving range of up to 560km, while DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent can be completed in as little as 24 minutes using a 195kW charger.

If the leaked price proves accurate, the 6e would be well positioned in the EV market against its rivals. It would line up directly against the entry-level BYD Seal Dynamic at a similar price point, while undercutting the base Tesla Model 3 by close to $5,000.

Range could become one of Mazda’s biggest advantages. At a claimed 560km, the 6e would offer more driving range than many similarly priced rivals, including the BYD Seal Dynamic’s 460km figure and the rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3’s 520km claim.
Unlike a traditional four-door sedan, the 6e adopts a five-door fastback layout that should give it added practicality. Mazda has also leaned heavily into styling, with frameless doors, an active rear spoiler and illuminated front and rear lighting signatures designed to help the car stand out in an increasingly crowded EV field.
Inside, the cabin features a large 14.6-inch infotainment display alongside a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an augmented reality head-up display. Nappa leather upholstery, Alcantara-style trim and a panoramic glass roof are all included as standard.

Mazda says the interior design follows the Japanese concept of “Ma”, focusing on openness and simplicity through a floating centre console and minimalist dashboard layout.
Another point of difference is the local chassis tuning. New Zealand-delivered examples will receive suspension, steering and brake calibration work developed by Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt, with tuning aimed specifically at Australasian and European driving conditions.
That could give the 6e an edge for buyers who still prioritise driving feel, particularly as more Chinese-built EV rivals enter the market with less region-specific development.
The electric sedan segment is becoming increasingly competitive in New Zealand, with brands like BYD, Tesla and Dongfeng all targeting value-conscious EV buyers. But Mazda’s combination of established dealer support, distinctive styling and potentially aggressive pricing could make the 6e one of the most closely watched EV launches of 2026.
