Moto Guzzi takes a new direction with The Trip 500
Words: Kyle Cassidy
Moto Guzzi has unveiled The Trip 500, a new roadster designed to open the Italian brand up to a wider group of riders.
Based on Aprilia’s 457 platform, it combines a parallel-twin engine producing around 35kW with a claimed 180kg wet weight and a seat height starting at 790mm. The local distributor describes it as Moto Guzzi’s first LAMS-class motorcycle and expects it to become the most accessible model in the range.
A New Zealand launch is anticipated, although final confirmation from parent company Piaggio Group is still pending. There’s no confirmed local arrival date or pricing yet.

For a marque closely associated with its distinctive V-twins, the parallel-twin engine represents a significant change. Moto Guzzi quotes almost 48hp, or approximately 35kW, and says much of the engine’s torque is available from low revs. The emphasis is on smooth response and manageable performance for commuting and weekend rides.
The Trip is also aimed at returning riders and experienced motorcyclists looking for something straightforward to enjoy. Its relatively low seat, natural riding position and modest weight should help make it less intimidating to manoeuvre, particularly around town.
There’s a useful helping of electronics, too. A ride-by-wire throttle supports three riding modes: Road, Sport and Rain. These allow riders to adjust the bike’s character to suit their route and the conditions.
A circular 3.6-inch TFT display includes smartphone connectivity, while backlit handlebar switches should make the controls easier to find after dark. Pictogram navigation and a quickshifter will be available as accessories.
Styling takes a clean, uncluttered approach, with the black-finished engine prominently on display beneath a 15-litre metal fuel tank. An LED headlight incorporates a fresh interpretation of the Moto Guzzi eagle, and the model’s name is embroidered into the seat.
Three colour schemes have been announced: Black Metropolis, Green Grove and Red Beat. Moto Guzzi will also mark the model’s introduction with a special edition called The Opening, although its equipment details have yet to be outlined.
The Trip 500 will make its public debut at EICMA in Milan from 5–8 November 2026.
