Singer unleashes 700hp DLS Turbo 911: Meet ‘Sorcerer’

Words: Kyle Cassidy

California-based restoration specialist Singer has officially handed over the keys to its first client-commissioned DLS Turbo, a 700-horsepower tribute to the Porsche 934/5 endurance racers of the 1970s.

Known for an obsessive attention to detail in reimagining the air-cooled Porsche 911, Singer’s latest creation, dubbed “Sorcerer” by its owner, marks the first delivery of its most ambitious restoration service to date.

While Singer has been famous for their “Classic” and “Dynamics and Lightweighting Study” (DLS) restorations, the DLS Turbo takes the platform into distinctively aggressive territory, marrying track-focused aerodynamics with a monster powertrain.

The Heart of the Beast

At the rear of “Sorcerer” sits an angry flat six. Singer has taken the 3.8-litre architecture developed during their DLS program and introduced twin variable geometry turbochargers.

This is the first engine in a Singer restoration to utilise water-cooled cylinder heads combined with air-cooled cylinders and an electric fan. This hybrid cooling solution was used by Porsche on its 959, and here it allows the engine to produce over 700HP (522kW) and 750Nm of torque, all while revving past a screaming 9000rpm. A hybrid Inconel and titanium exhaust system with side-exits is said to ‘contribute to the unique soundtrack of the famous flat-six’.

Rob Dickinson, Singer’s Founder, says the goal was to celebrate the 911’s evolution.

“With DLS Turbo we wanted to celebrate the 911’s evolution as an icon on both road and track and to explore the possibilities offered by turbocharging the remarkable engine developed through the DLS program,” says Dickinson. “Seeing Sorcerer ready for its owner to drive is a very exciting moment for us.”

Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, ensuring an analogue driving experience.

Track-Ready Engineering

Like all Singer commissions, the car began life as a Type 964 Porsche 911. The donor car was stripped to the steel monocoque, strengthened, and then clothed in carbon fibre bodywork shaped by computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Owners can choose between a Road or Track configuration for the bodywork. The owner of “Sorcerer” opted for the dramatic Track specification, featuring a high-downforce rear wing and a deep front spoiler. The exterior is finished in “Fantasia Blue,” featuring a gradient effect that darkens toward the rear, complemented by Satin Carbon fibre trim.

Under the skin, the car features double-wishbone suspension at the front and lightweight trailing arms at the rear. Stopping power is provided by CCM-R carbon ceramic discs with monoblock calipers, hidden behind lightweight forged magnesium centre-lock wheels (19-inch front, 20-inch rear).

There are five drive modes (Road, Sport, Track, Off and Weather) to adjust the levels of intervention from the traction control and electronic stability control.

Interior Luxury, Singer style

Despite the track-focused exterior, the cabin retains Singer’s hallmark luxury. The interior features Pebble Grey leather with Pearl Grey Alcantara seat centres and Champagne piping.

The gauge cluster remains a focal point, featuring hand-built floating dials with Champagne bezels, styled to resemble high-end timepieces. While the car includes modern necessities like air-conditioning, a nose-lift system, and Apple CarPlay, the technology is integrated discreetly to maintain the vintage aesthetic.

Mazen Fawaz, Singer’s Chief Strategy Officer, emphasizes that despite the massive power, driveability remains key.

“A powerful, analogue sports car that’s fun to drive is always the goal. It should be as engaging to drive at 40mph as is it at 140mph,” says Fawaz. “We’ve brought together an engine with the low-down torque of turbocharging, the ability to rev to over 9000rpm, and Singer’s standards of execution to make DLS Turbo very special.”

No word on the price, but we guess it would be in the squillions.
