Kia’s sporty hatch, the pro_cee’d, has earned a 5-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme.
Released to New Zealand earlier this year, the Kia pro_cee’d performed well in its crash test offering good occupant protection.
AA General Manager Motoring Services Stella Stocks says the pro_cee’d boasts a number of safety assist technologies (SATs) as standard which are often not provided by other manufacturers.
“Kia has really taken occupant safety seriously with SATs such as reversing collision avoidance, hill launch assist and daytime running lights as standard. There are a few other SAT features I would like to see added to the mix such as adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking, but the pro_cee’d is definitely a step in the right direction,” Ms Stocks says.
The pro_cee’d includes dual frontal, side chest and side head airbags, antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC).
Also included are seatbelt reminders for all seats.
Transport Agency spokesperson Andy Knackstedt says the NZTA is working to improve the safety of New Zealand’s vehicle fleet as part of the Government’s Safer Journeys strategy and it was great news that the range of top safety-rated cars was continuing to grow.
“Crash statistics show that occupants of 5-star rated vehicles are much less likely to receive life-threatening injuries in a crash than occupants of lower rated vehicles. With today’s safety technology 5-star safety ratings are increasingly become the norm, and we urge people to buy the safest vehicle they can afford.”
