Forthing announces local pricing for Taikon SUV

Words: Andrew Sluys

Forthing New Zealand has announced pricing and specification for the Taikon SUV.

The SUV lands locally with the choice of two powertrains; an all-electric version, and a ‘Super Hybrid’ range extender.

The range begins with the Taikon Super Hybrid Luxury at $39,990, and jumps to $44,990 for the higher-spec Exclusive model.

This Super Hybrid variant combines a 1.5 petrol engine with electric drive capability. It uses the same 120kW/240Nm but has a smaller 31.9 KWH battery.

It can operate as a pure EV for up to 183km, while its combined driving range is claimed to exceed 1000km, reducing the need for frequent charging or refuelling on longer journeys.

As for the EV, it starts with the Taikon EV Luxury at $42,990, and the Exclusive represents Forthing’s flagship model at $47,990.

The EV model gets a driving range of more than 400km (WLTP). It has a 150kW 240Nm front-mounted motor, which draws from a 64.4kWh battery. Fast charging from 30 to 80 per cent is stated to take 30 minutes.

Standard equipment is the same between model levels, no matter which powertrain is selected.

The Exclusive gets power seats, a massaging driver seats, adaptive cruise control, and a full suite of advanced safety tech.

A 10.25-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity is also standard.

Higher-spec Luxury models add a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, power tailgate, and 360-degree camera.

All Forthing Taikon models are covered by a seven-year/200,000km factory warranty.

The Taikon is yet to be tested by ANCAP, but it has received a 5-star VSRR safety rating.

“As we establish the brand in New Zealand, we’re also preparing to introduce additional new models over the next two years, giving customers even more choice across multiple segments,” says Todd Groves, General Sales Manager of Forthing NZ.
