McLaren has unveiled a new special edition variant of its Artura plug-in hybrid supercar, inspired by the brand’s motorsport success.

Celebrating the team that Bruce McLaren founded in 1963, the Artura 1000GP is a nod to the 1,000 Formula 1 race starts completed.

It was created by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) team, and just 10 units are planned for production.

The Artura 1000GP wears a livery inspired by what the MCL40 cars will be using at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

This design consists of “1000GP” designs across the bonnet, side, and mirrors on the Artura.

Spending more than six decades in Formula 1, McLaren is only beaten as the oldest team by Scuderia Ferrari.

“Racing and road cars have always been shaped by the same mindset at McLaren, and the McLaren Artura 1000GP by MSO celebrates that shared foundation,” said McLaren Group Holdings CEO Nick Collins.

“It reflects the environment Bruce created – an environment built on collective ambition, engineering excellence and a unified approach to progress.”

It’s unclear as to whether or not we’ll see any of these 1000GP cars land in New Zealand, but considering how they’re limited to just 10, it’s likely a no.
