McLaren has unveiled its new MCL-HY, which will compete in the FIA WEC Hypercar class from 2027.

But alongside this high-tech hybrid, it has also revealed a customer version that will be available to purchase.

Dubbed the MCL-HY GTR, this racer will be available to “VIP McLaren clients” only, and is a lighter version of the hypercar.

It does away with the MGU hybrid system, and uses a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 exclusively to develop north of 530kW.

So with the endurance racer tipping the scales at 1,030kg, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the GTR come in below 1-tonne.

McLaren notes that this GTR is a “first-of-its-kind collaboration” between the brand’s road car and motorsport divisions.

The MCL-HY will reportedly begin testing on track later this month, with the season starting early 2027.

Deliveries of customer cars will reportedly begin before the end of the year.

For those wealthy enough to secure a GTR, McLaren will provide a two-year, six-event track experience with the purchase.

This is based at iconic circuits around the world, and McLaren will provide the pit crew and professional coaches.
