Porsche is reportedly considering merging its Panamera and Taycan badges to form a single model.
According to a report published by Autocar UK, this is a move the German brand is looking into purely for financial purposes.Â

Both the Panamera and Taycan are high-performance sedans, although they use different platforms, and quite different body styles.
Where the more traditional Panamera uses Porsche’s MSB platform, which is also used by the Bentley Continental GT, the Taycan sits on the J1 platform.
When the Panamera gets updated, it will move to the PPC, and the Taycan is set to switch to the SSP when a new model is released.
As you can imagine, developing two platforms for two sedans costs twice as much as developing a single model on one platform, hence why the merger is under consideration.

In saying this, it looks likely Porsche will keep them on separate platforms even if they’re under the same badge, but look at sharing more parts between them.
Porsche already does this with the Macan, as the petrol-powered model uses a completely different platform to the all-electric one, and they’re sold concurrently.
Porsche has reportedly spent around $3 billion on delays relating to platform development, meaning a simplification could provide serious financial relief.
