Subaru Australia has announced availability for the new all-electric Uncharted SUV, meaning New Zealand will likely follow suit.

Dubbed an SEV (Sport Electric Vehicle), the Uncharted builds upon where the Solterra left off in Subaru’s EV strategy.

Where the Solterra was based on the Toyota bZ4X, the Uncharted shares underpinnings with the Toyota C-HR Plus.

It uses a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, to create an all-wheel-drive system — inline with Subaru’s local all-paw ethos.

These motors produce a peak output of 252kW, which is enough to send the little EV to 100km/h in around five seconds.

It is powered by a 74.7kWh CATL battery, which provides a driving range of up to 522km (WLTP).

It can be DC fast-charged at a peak rate of 150kW, which will replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes.

It also features a vehicle to load function, capable of delivering 1500W of power to external devices.

As for off-road capability, it gets 211mm of ground clearance, Subaru’s x-mode, and hill descent control.

Standard equipment on the outside includes 20‑inch alloy wheels, and bold LED lighting around the vehicle.

On the inside, it gets a 14-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.

It also has two wireless phone charging pads, and Subaru notes how physical buttons for important functions have been retained.

While the Uncharted is yet to be confirmed for the New Zealand market, it is being distributed by the Inchape Group in Australia.

This is important as Inchape also handles Subaru distribution in New Zealand, so bringing it across the pond wouldn’t be as much of a chore.
