Tesla has announced the end of production for the Model S sedan and Model X SUV.

An email sent to US-based customers reportedly informed them of this news, and told them to act fast if they want to buy any remaining stock.

The email mentioned how the ending production of these two models would “make way for this autonomous future.”

It’s likely the brand is referring to the Cybercab robotaxi and the Optimus humanoid robot here.

While this is big news in the US, it isn’t as significant on this side of the world, as neither model has been offered here for some time.

Both the Model S and the Model X were pulled from sale in New Zealand in 2023, following a mid-cycle update.

In the email, Tesla reportedly described these two EVs as the vehicles that “marked the beginning of the world’s transition to electric transportation.”

Like the brand or not, it’s hard to disagree with this sentiment, as the Model S kicked off the world’s interest in electric mobility in the mainstream.

The luxurious nature combined with blistering performance made early Tesla vehicles feel somewhat exotic.

It wasn’t really until Model 3 sales took off that the hype around the brand cooled off.

Production of Tesla’s autonomous Cybercab robotaxi is set to kick off next month, and the Optimus Gen 3 will release later this year.
