Volkswagen has finally taken the covers off the highly anticipated Volkswagen ID.Polo GTI, at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
The electric hot hatch arrives as the first EV to wear VW’s iconic GTI badge, and keeps a relatively normal aesthetic compared to the ICE-powered Polo.

This is a departure from the rest of the ID range thus far, which ushered in a new design generation for Volkswagen, ditching a lot of styling heritage.
It gets a more aggressive bumper than the standard ID.Polo with honeycomb mesh in it. There’s a similar theme at the rear of the hatch.

It is powered by a 52kWh battery that should provide a WLTP-rated range of around 420km. The charging rate maxes out at 105kW when using a DC charger.
Beneath the bonnet, the ID.Polo GTI makes use of a 166kW/290Nm electric motor, which drives the front wheels.
This gives it a 0-100km/h time of 6.8-seconds, and a top speed of 175km/h. This is about on par with the last-generation Polo GTI, which could hit 100km/h in 6.6-seconds.

A limited-slip differential on the front axle helps to keep power distribution consistent as it’s sent through the 19-inch wheels.
Stopping power is handled by disk brakes at all four corners, and it gets an adaptive sports suspension system as standard.
On the inside, the GTI wears a plethora of red, distinguishing it from the standard ID.Polo model.

A large landscape-mounted infotainment display sits in the centre of the dash, flanked by a smaller digital cluster behind the steering wheel.
