Toyota has revealed its all-new and improved Land Cruiser Prado Hybrid, featuring a stylish, retro design, and a compact hybrid powerplant. This Kiwi classic has been a fan favourite since the early 1950s offering a tough and reliable large SUV capable of tackling New Zealand’s toughest terrains.
For 2024, Toyota has completely redesigned its chassis showcasing a larger wheelbase, rugged design and premium interior offered in three different packages, the GXL, the VX and the VX Limited.
This redesigned chassis for the new Prado includes a longer wheelbase at 2850mm, providing excellent all-round performance, as well as the overall length being pushed to 4925mm. The width grows to 1980mm giving better all-terrain tracking with a height of 1870 making it similar in size to the current 300 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.
Much like Toyota’s Hybrid Hilux, this new Land Cruiser Prado sports the same reliable 2.8l 4-cylinder diesel paired with the 48V Hybrid, producing 500Nm. Toyota claims this new hybrid will increase fuel economy by around 5% compared to the previous generation’s non-hybrid.

In North America and China, Toyota will offer a ‘full hybrid’ combining a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a larger electric motor, good for 243kW and 630Nm combined – or 60 per cent more power than the diesel, unfortunately at this stage, New Zealand will not receive the petrol.
The interior is completely redesigned offering a modern minimalistic interior, featuring a large centre touch screen, digital cockpit, leather seats, wireless charging and more.
