Geely Monjaro hybrid coming to New Zealand in 2027
Words: Kyle Cassidy
Geely will expand its New Zealand SUV range in 2027 with the arrival of the Monjaro, a large five-seat hybrid positioned above the Starray EM-i.
The Monjaro will give Geely a larger, more premium family offering as the Chinese brand builds its presence in the local market. However, Kiwi pricing, grades and a precise launch date won’t be announced until closer to its arrival.

Geely New Zealand says the local model will pair a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. It will operate as a conventional hybrid, meaning owners won’t need to plug it in to recharge the battery.
Already sold in China as the Xingyue L, the Monjaro sits above the Starray in Geely’s SUV hierarchy. The current model measures 4770mm long, putting it in the heart of the medium-to-large SUV class, although an updated international version is reported to stretch to 4955mm.
That newer model is also listed as measuring 1960mm wide and 1769mm tall, with a 2900mm wheelbase. Final dimensions for the New Zealand-market Monjaro have yet to be confirmed.

While it will offer more room than the Starray, the Monjaro remains a five-seater rather than following some rivals down the three-row route. The emphasis is instead expected to be on passenger space, equipment and a more upmarket cabin.
The latest international Monjaro also introduces Geely’s third-generation electronic and electrical architecture, known as GEEA 3.0. This underpins the vehicle’s infotainment, driver-assistance and connected technology.
Visually, the SUV adopts a large chrome grille with vertical slats, flanked by smoked headlights. Dashed LED daytime running lights appear across the upper and lower sections of each cluster.
A full-width light bar continues across the rear, while larger tail-light units help distinguish the updated model from the existing Xingyue L.

The Monjaro will join a growing Geely range when it reaches New Zealand in 2027, giving the brand an entrant above the Starray EM-i for buyers wanting a larger hybrid SUV without seven seats.
More useful details – including local power output, fuel economy, equipment, price and whether all-wheel drive will be offered – will be revealed closer to launch.
Geely is on a product blitz of late with the EX2 recently launched, and the impending arrival of the Geely EX5 Inspire Extended Range and the Geely Starray EM-i Inspire Extended Range.
