Chery Q EV confirmed for New Zealand
Words: Andrew Sluys
One of Chery’s smallest electric vehicles has been confirmed for New Zealand, with an estimated arrival pegged for next year.
Dubbed the QQ3 in its home market of China, this little EV will be called the Chery Q when it launches in New Zealand.

The Q is an electric hatch that pairs cute exterior styling with impressive interior space, despite a relatively small footprint.
It is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle, making it a rear-wheel drive hatch. Peak outputs sit at 90kW/115Nm.
It features a 42kWh battery, and Chery claims a peak driving range of over 400km according to NEDC testing.

This battery can be charged at up to 85kW DC, allowing it to regain 30-80 per cent of charge in around 16 minutes.
On the inside, it gets an 8-inch digital display, and a 15.6-inch infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
The Chery Q has already launched in Thailand, meaning right-hand drive production has commenced.

This seems to be the biggest barrier in Chinese brands bringing vehicles to NZ, which explains the reasonably quick timeline.
A Chery spokesperson in China confirmed they are estimating a New Zealand launch of the Q sometime in 2027.
When it does hit the local market, it will likely come up against the BYD Atto 1 at the cheap end of our new EV market.
