Dongfeng stakes claim as “best value” electric SUV with Vigo arrival

Words: Andrew Sluys

Dongfeng has announced pricing for the Vigo SUV, which will start from $37,990 when deliveries begin in February 2026.

This price is part of a launch offer that slashes $2,000 off the SUV’s price until the end of April 2026.

Following the launch of the Box, Dongfeng is keeping the value proposition front of mind with the Vigo, which undercuts the BYD Atto 2 in the same segment, which starts from $39,990.

At 4.3-metres long, 1.8-metres wide, and 1.6-metres tall, the Vigo is a compact SUV that features seating for up to five occupants.

It is powered by a 51kWh battery, which offers a driving range of up to 310km, according to WLTP testing.

A maximum charging rate of 167kW is listed with the Vigo, meaning it can be charged from 30 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

As for capacities, luggage storage at the rear measures 500-litres, and it is also rated to tow up to 750kg.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, plus a driver’s seat with heating and ventilation.

It’s also noted the optional panoramic moonroof is also included on cars purchased with the launch offer, which normally is a $1,500 option.

As for tech, it gets a 12.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple Carplay, but Android Auto is listed as optional. There’s also an 8.0-inch digital cluster.

On the safety front, the Vigo gets six airbags, front and rear sensors, plus ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

Though a five-star Vehicle Safety Risk Rating has been given to the Vigo by NZTA, it’s worth noting that this rating is based on what it would be expected to get, by looking at similar vehicles.

A six-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year/200,000 km battery warranty and six-year roadside assistance comes as part of the package.
