Kia has unveiled the EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show, which is expected to become the brand’s cheapest electric vehicle.
Measuring at just 4060mm long, the EV2 is a very compact SUV, but still offers seating for up to five occupants.
Built in the same E-GMP platform as the EV3 and EV4, the EV2 will only be available in front-wheel drive, with a single electric motor on the front axle.
Two variants will be offered, with the standard range model getting a 42.2kWh battery and the long range model making use of a larger 61kWh battery.
As for WLTP-rated driving range, the standard range gets 317km, while the long range model can cover up to 448km off a single charge.
As for charging, it can do both 11kW and 22kW via AC, which is a big bonus for those with home chargers rated to 22kW.
For context, the larger battery can be completely charged in just three hours at 22kW.
Kia didn’t provide a maximum figure for DC fast charging, but it did state the larger battery needs just 30 minutes to go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent.
It also gets the ability to power appliances thanks to its V2L capabilities, and can also send power back to the grid.
On the inside, it gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.3-inch digital cluster. There’s also a separate 5.3-inch screen between the two for HVAC controls.
As for safety tech, the EV2 gets Kia’s entire suite, consisting of Highway Driving Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Following Assist.
In regards to local availability, Kia New Zealand has stated that it is still under consideration for our market.
