Lexus New Zealand has revealed pricing and specifications for the all-new eighth-generation ES sedan ahead of its local arrival later this year, with the luxury four-door set to offer both hybrid and fully electric powertrains this time around.
Priced from $96,900 plus on-road costs, the new ES also introduces Lexus Connected Services technology to New Zealand, bringing a suite of app-based vehicle functions and remote connectivity features previously unavailable here.
The latest ES represents a significant evolution of one of Lexus’ longest-running nameplates. First launched alongside the flagship LS in 1989, the ES has built a reputation for comfort, refinement and quietness. And being extremely dull. But the new one at least looks interesting.
According to Lexus New Zealand Vice President Andrew Davis, the new model modernises that formula while retaining the qualities that have made the ES popular with Kiwi buyers.
Hybrid and electric options
New Zealand customers will be able to choose between hybrid and battery-electric versions of the ES.
The range opens with the ES 300h Premium and ES 300h Limited, both powered by Lexus’ latest hybrid drivetrain. Pricing starts at $96,900 for the Premium, while the better-equipped Limited variant will retail from $104,900 plus on-road costs.
Sitting at the top of the range is the new ES 500e Dynamic, priced from $109,900 plus on-road costs.
The fully electric model introduces a more ‘driver-focused character’ than previous ES generations (which wouldn’t be hard), featuring Lexus’ new Interactive Manual Drive system. The technology simulates an eight-speed transmission, allowing drivers to use steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters to manually select virtual gears for a more engaging driving experience.
Inspired by the future
Visually, the new ES takes inspiration from the LF-ZC concept car unveiled in 2023, adopting a sleeker silhouette and more modern proportions while growing in size to improve cabin space.
Inside, Lexus has embraced a cleaner and more minimalist design philosophy, with an emphasis on passenger comfort and rear-seat accommodation. The larger dimensions are expected to enhance the ES’s appeal as both a luxury commuter and executive transport vehicle.
Connected Lexus technology arrives
Perhaps the most significant development for local buyers is the introduction of Lexus Connected Services.
The system allows owners to interact with their vehicle through the Lexus Connected smartphone app, providing access to features such as remote locking and unlocking, vehicle status monitoring, remote climate control and emergency assistance functions.

Additional features include cloud-based navigation, vehicle tracking and real-time vehicle information.
