Lexus unveils updated NX with new looks and hybrid power 

Lexus has unveiled an updated version of its second-generation NX SUV, which will likely land in New Zealand next year. 

On the outside, the big change is the RX-inspired styling that gives the NX a more muscular and mature look. 

Slight changes to the rear of the SUV can be seen across the tailgate, and there are new LED taillights. 

The inside of this new NX is quite a departure from the last model, and looks to be inspired by the ES sedan. 

A large centre screen is flanked by a digital cluster, and the flush buttons are housed within a horizontal bar that spans the width of the cabin. 

This infotainment screen uses a new operating system, which again is the same as the ES. 

Though it doesn’t come as much of a change for New Zealand, this NX is now only offered with hybrid powertains. 

Globally, the NX300h is now the entry point to the range, and is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 110kW. 

Considering the New Zealand NX line-up starts with the NX350h, we can expect this to carry over into the new model, and is still powered by the RAV4’s 2.5-litre engine. 

The range-topping new model is the NX450h+, which uses a plug-in hybrid version of the same 2.5-litre engine. 

A new lithium-ion battery also increases the electric driving range from 87km to 100km in these PHEV models.
