Mercedes-Maybach has revealed an updated S-Class, the firm saying its flagship limo is a ‘new benchmark for ultra-luxury’ with a stronger focus on digital integration, electrification and bespoke craftsmanship.

Unveiled in Stuttgart, the latest Mercedes-Maybach S-Class introduces a suite of design, technology and comfort upgrades aimed at delivering what the brand describes as an “oasis of tranquillity” for both drivers and rear-seat passengers.

It features the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) in a Maybach model for the first time. The system underpins the next-generation MBUX infotainment experience, bringing a more personalised digital interface, enhanced by over-the-air updates and a new AI-powered virtual assistant.

Visually, the luxury saloon adopts a more assertive presence. A redesigned Maybach grille, now 20 percent larger, can be specified with illuminated surrounds, while subtle lighting elements extend to the C-pillar badges and even the iconic bonnet-mounted star in some markets. The attention to detail continues with unique forged wheels featuring a “floating” centre cap that remains upright, copying the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Inside, the cabin has been reworked to further elevate comfort and refinement. A new MBUX Superscreen stretches across the dashboard, which Merc says blends high-resolution displays with traditional materials such as open-pore wood trims. They would have you know that the result is a lounge-like interior designed to enhance the brand’s signature “cocooning” effect.

In a notable shift, Mercedes-Maybach is also introducing a leather-free interior option for the first time, featuring a new textile material called Mirville. It is said to be designed to mimic the look and feel of natural fibres.

Rear-seat comfort remains a key focus. Executive seating, a refrigerated compartment and silver-plated champagne flutes from German silversmith Robbe & Berking are among the available features. Automatic comfort doors, operable via the infotainment system, add a further layer of theatre and convenience when entering or exiting the vehicle.

Under the bonnet, the updated line-up introduces revised six- and eight-cylinder engines paired with mild-hybrid technology, designed to deliver smoother performance and improved efficiency. The S680 delivers 450 kW and 850 Nm. In selected markets, the 450kW V12 engine remains available, for those that prefer to sidestep electrification and burn through more fuel.

The 395kW/750Nm plug-in hybrid variant, badged S 580 e, is claimed to offer an electric-only driving range of around 100 kilometres, alongside improved mid-range acceleration and increased system output. Mercedes-Maybach says the model has been engineered to meet future emissions regulations while maintaining the refinement expected of the nameplate.

Ride comfort is further enhanced by an updated AIRMATIC air suspension system with predictive damping. Using real-time data shared via the Mercedes-Benz cloud, it is said that the system can anticipate road conditions and adjust accordingly, delivering a smoother experience, particularly for rear passengers.

Advanced driver assistance systems also receive a boost, with a new computing architecture supporting features such as MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO. The system is designed to enable more seamless point-to-point driving, even in complex urban environments, although availability will vary by market.

Personalisation remains central to the Maybach experience. Through the MANUFAKTUR programme, buyers can specify an extensive range of bespoke finishes, colours and materials, with most vehicles leaving the factory with multiple custom elements tailored to individual tastes.
