MG4 Urban Essence 54 Special Edition in Diamond Red with a black roof

MG4 Urban Special Edition adds red or blue two-tone paint for $500 more

Words: Richard Edwards

MG has added a limited-run Special Edition to its MG4 Urban electric hatchback, with red or blue two-tone paint, black seats and revised ambient lighting for $500 more than the standard car.

The MG4 Urban Essence 54 Special Edition costs $39,490 plus on-road costs, against $38,990 for the regular Essence 54. Underneath, it is the same car, with the same 54kWh battery, 118kW motor and 17-inch alloy wheels.

MG says the Special Edition will be available in limited numbers.

“The MG4 EV Urban combines fully electric driving with contemporary styling and everyday practicality, making it an appealing option for drivers looking to make the switch to electric motoring,” says Dean Sheed, country business manager for MG Motor New Zealand. “The two new colour options add extra personality to its modern design, giving customers more choice when selecting a vehicle that suits their individual style.”

What’s different

The Special Edition comes in Diamond Red or Ice Blue, both paired with a black roof and black door mirrors. Ice Blue is exclusive to the Special Edition, while the standard car offers Diamond Red without the contrasting roof.

Inside, it gets black seats and a revised ambient lighting treatment on the front door panels. MG is also offering $0 deposit finance on the Special Edition through Heartland Bank.

“We know customers want an electric vehicle that delivers on the things that matter every day, but they also want something that reflects their personality,” Sheed says. “These Special Edition red and blue MG4 EV Urban models give buyers the chance to enjoy all the benefits of electric driving with a little extra individuality.”

Range and charging

The MG4 Urban has a WLTP range of up to 405km from its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. It DC fast charges at up to 87kW, for a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes, and has a 6.6kW on-board AC charger and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for powering appliances. Like other MGs sold in New Zealand, it comes with a 10-year transferable warranty.

MG quotes 0-100km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 160km/h. The boot holds 382 litres, or 1266 litres with the rear seats folded.

Standard equipment includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 7-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, LED lights, roof rails and MG Pilot driver assistance.
