A Mercedes-AMG executive has confirmed V8 engine production will kick off again within the year, with new rumbling models on the horizon.

This news comes from an interview Car Magazine did with Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Scheibe.

“At the end of the year, you’ll see the V8 coming back to AMG. We will launch it again with SUVs, but other cars will get it too,” Schiebe said to Car.

Scheibe didn’t go into detail on which vehicles will be receiving the V8 engines, but considering SUVs are up first, it will likely be the new GLE and GLS models.

There’s also hope for cars such as the E-Class and C-Class, with both respective AMG models being fan favourites with the V8.

There’s also the chance of more special edition V8-equipped models returning such as the SL and GT.

There’s also a new version of the CLE Coupe that will feature this new V8 engine, and wear the company’s ‘Mythos’ badge.

This CLE follows in the footsteps of the Mythos PureSpeed, where only 250 were produced, making it one of the rarer AMG models.

The engine in question will likely be a high-performance version of the new M177 Evo that’s found in the S-Class.

It’s a 4.0-litre twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 that features mild hybrid assistance.

In this new S-Class, the V8 produces 395kW and 750Nm, which is almost on par with the last generation of AMG V8s.
