Audi has confirmed its iconic turbocharged five-cylinder engine will cease production in mid-2027, as emission laws tighten.
First reported on by Automotive News, the 2.5-litre engine doesn’t comply with upcoming Euro 7 regulations, which will be implemented late 2026.

Currently, Audi offers the engine in just the RS3 hatch and sedan, but these cars will also be discontinued at the same time.
The engine was previously used in the RS Q3 and the TT RS, which were both sold locally, but have been discontinued also.
The Cupra Formentor VZ5 will be the last new vehicle to land in New Zealand with this engine, which is set to launch later this year.
There’s also a rumour surrounding a special edition of the Golf R, which might gain this engine for the 25th anniversary.
