McLaren is bringing back the manual transmission
Words: Andrew Sluys
McLaren has released a teaser video, showing the glimpses of its long-awaited manual-equipped supercar.
Set to make its debut at Monterey Car Week in a few days, this special edition car will be the first manual from the British brand since the F1.
The video opens with Bruce McLaren talking about how he wants to build a road car from one of the McLaren race cars.
This ended up becoming the M6GT, which will also debut at the event, but what comes after is almost more interesting.

For a split second, we see a shot of a modern manual transmission, then the rear part of a supercar’s cabin.
It’s clear that this isn’t the M6GT at this point, nor is it any other modern McLaren supercar we’ve seen previously.
It almost looks like the rear haunches of the Mercedes-AMG SLS, but that Mercedes tie-up fizzled out a long time ago.
McLaren has previously indicated that it plans to build less than 100 of these manual-equipped supercars, code-named the P50.
Reports indicate it will cost more than McLaren’s new W1 halo car, which starts around $3.5 million.
