Don’t get us wrong. We love Porsche’s 911. I mean really love it, who could imagine an automotive landscape without it? Or at least would want to think of one.

That said, if you were to judge it on ‘typical’ beauty, it’s not the most elegant of shapes. We’re more fond of the Cayman – it’s so slender you can’t help but be mesmerised by it, but it isn’t so ostentatious.

It always packed a punch when you drove it too, easier to drive fast and more forgiving than the 911 and still rewardingly quick in the top spec S form. Now though Porsche has added a bit more to the experience by adding power and reducing weight in the Cayman R. A recipe for success, then. To add further driving appeal it’s lower and firmer.

AutoTrader.co.nz took the first NZ drive of this more exclusive, more expensive and suitably more special Cayman; we won’t keep you hanging…we loved it…really loved it.
