MG4 Urban Special Edition swaps PVC seats for fabric
Words: Richard Edwards
We are loving the return of fabric seats, and MG is the latest to bring them back. The new MG4 Urban Special Edition swaps the standard car’s PVC upholstery for black and grey fabric, and adds two-tone paint and extra interior lighting for $500 more.
The MG4 Urban Essence 54 Special Edition costs $39,490 plus on-road costs, against $38,990 for the regular Essence 54. Underneath, it is the same car, with the same 54kWh battery, 118kW motor and 17-inch alloy wheels.
What’s different
The Special Edition comes in Diamond Red or Ice Blue, both paired with a black roof and black door mirrors. Ice Blue is exclusive to the Special Edition, while the standard car offers Diamond Red without the contrasting roof.

Inside, along with the fabric seats, the ambient lighting extends onto the front door panels. MG is also offering $0 deposit finance on the Special Edition through Heartland Bank.

Range and charging
The MG4 Urban has a WLTP range of up to 405km from its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. It DC fast charges at up to 87kW, for a 10-80% charge in about 30 minutes, and has a 6.6kW on-board AC charger and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for powering appliances.
MG quotes 0-100km/h in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 160km/h. The boot holds 382 litres, or 1266 litres with the rear seats folded.
Standard equipment includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 7-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, LED lights, roof rails and MG Pilot driver assistance.
